Why People Keep Coming Back

We are the only proper English chippy on the Sunshine Coast. Beef dripping, not vegetable oil. Real mushy peas, not tinned. A sit-down room so you can eat them hot instead of steaming in paper on the drive home.

Family owned since 1990. Ray and Margaret came out from Hull with two suitcases and a fryer that customs would not let through. Thirty-six years on, their son David runs the fryers and Margaret still does the peas.

Award-winning, and loved by locals. Buderim families have been booking the same Friday table for over a decade.

Everything is made here. Cut, battered and cooked on the day. Nothing arrives pre-battered in a bag.

Proper portions at a fair price. Feeding a family, or four tradies off a Kunda Park job, should not cost a fortune.

Somewhere to actually sit. Twenty-four seats, BYO, and a room you can book out entirely for a birthday or a club night.

From the Shop: Why We Still Fry in Beef Dripping

Everyone else on the coast moved to vegetable oil years ago. We did not. Dripping holds a higher, steadier heat, which seals the batter fast so the chip inside steams rather than soaks. That is the difference between a chip that snaps and a chip that sags. It also carries flavour in a way oil simply does not — which is why our chips taste like the ones Ray grew up on in Hull.
